Referring Organisations

Jobcentre Plus is a government agency supporting people of working age from welfare into work, and helping employers to fill their vacancies. JCP are part of the Department for Works and Pensions (DWP) and play a major role in supporting the Department’s aim to ‘promote opportunity and independence for all through modern, customer-focused services’.

Jobcentre Plus are therefore a cornerstone to the Governments plans to implement the findings of the Leitch Review of Skills published in December 2006. It states that the UK must commit itself to becoming a world leader in skills by 2020 and that the responsibility for achieving those ambitions must be shared between Government bodies, employers and individuals. Lord Leitch said that one of the main priorities for moving people into employment is ensuring they receive good information, advice & guidance (IAG) and that they are encouraged to improve their skills.

JCP recognise there is a need to offer greater time to people for information, advice & guidance interviews. JCP Advisers in Hampshire & IOW are using the Sector Skills Service as an impartial Information Advice and Guidance service to enhance their service to JCP customers. Using the JCP online referral form it takes JCP Advisers just a few minutes to refer customers for a " JCP Enhanced Service". www.sectorskillsservice.com/iag

Designed to be used within JCP Offices, the partnership with the Sector Skills Service has created a service that quickly and easily enhances the assistance provided by JCP Advisers to JCP customers. The Sector Skills Service gives trade and industry information from Sector Skills Councils and will refer customers to local providers as required. Other benefits include work experience opportunities and qualifications.

The Service can be used by everyone, regardless of benefit status, and is immediately available to people whether they have only been registered with JCP for one day or have been long term unemployed. JCP Advisers can also refer people returning to work after illness, single parents and employed people.

The Sector Skills Service is currently available to all Jobcentre Plus offices within Hampshire & IOW for JCP Management & staff to refer their customers.
