Service OverviewThe Sector Skills Service conducts in Hampshire over 2,000 advice and guidance sessions per year. The vast majority of the information advice and guidance sessions are requested by the Jobcentre Plus offices who refer, on a daily basis, their customers seeking employment. Using the IAG session as a platform the Sector Skills Service has progressed a considerable number of people to a point where they have obtained new skills, qualifications and new employment. The Sector Skills Service primarily deals with the unemployed and their Advisors recognise that in many of the cases depression and anxiety have destroyed the person’s confidence. These people are claiming Benefits and they need our understanding and help to rebuild their self-esteem and gain some confidence to get back into work. The Sector Skills Service also talks with many lone parents who need to start earning an income for them and their family. We also find that many people believe that ageism is a reality. While this may exist, many people are making this a barrier when with retraining it does not have to be? The vast majority of people we speak with do not have the required qualifications and therefore cannot gain any worthwhile experience of work. The Sector Skills Service, working in partnership with local further education establishments, is currently able to offer Work Experience placements and Workshops for the unemployed. It is these initiatives that are helping people to obtain new skills and move back into work. Contact: 0845 644 1312 to arrange an interview |
